How do I configure a POP account on iPad?

Invisible-Coyote

(If this seems repetitious, sorry but I've been prompted to ask my question again.)

The only option appears to be IMAP, which I don't want.

Apple seems to be forcing the IMAP on iOS devices. Tried on my iPhone running 7.1.2 also. Defaulted right to IMAP. There is a workaround though.

>>> Note: POP3 is not recommended for mobile devices / tablets <<<

How to set up POP3 on iOS 7.1.2:

  1. Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  2. Select Add Account
  3. Scroll down and choose Other
  4. Select Add Mail Account
  5. Enter your name.
  6. To force iOS to give you the options, enter your email with @telus.com as the domain. << This is key
  7. Enter your usual Password and any Description you want
  8. Select Next
  9. Choose the POP tab at the top.
  10. Correct your email address
  11. Enter the server information. Use pop.telus.net as the incoming server and ensure your username and password are present.
  12. Use smtp.telus.net as the outgoing server.
  13. Click Save and you are done.

Hi Nighthawk

I had missed your message. Many apologies!

More to the point, you solved my problem. Actually I had stumbled on a similar suggestion for forcing the POP option to show (typing an incorrect password). But your tip, with step-by-step instructions, prompted me to discover a mistake I'd been making. For user name I'd been entering my full email address instead of just the first half. (Some suggest that when troubleshooting gmail).

Anyway, thanks very much!
