Why would entered and saved events in my calendar suddenly disappear 20 seconds after entry?!? I have a Samsung Galaxy Note.

That could be caused by a software glitch on your phone or because the mail/calendar server isn't syncing properly to your device.
Have you tried removing and re-adding the calendar?
Is it an exchange calendar?
