ZTE Hub and significant downgrade in uploads as of end of May 2023

Thought I'd wait this out, but its here to stay.  Live out in rural East Central AB and typically rates with hub have been 25 Mbps download and 5 - 10 Mbps upload the latter varying for brief periods of time.

As of end of May, an abrupt drop to in and around 1 - 2 Mbps 'max'.

Wondering if some system issue or response at that point (say, from being overloaded) or if engineered throttling on Telus' part.

I had those decent numbers for almost 3 years now since relocating back into this area.

Anyone else have similar issues in East Central AB?

Hello. That's definitely not the experience we want our Smart Hub clients to have. I recommend reaching out to our Mobility team directly at 1-866-558-2273 so they can troubleshoot with you!

Well, called Telus about this issue.  Much testing of my line and long a short after a 'reset' of the hub, I have average upload 2.4 Mbps - fairly consistent over the past day, and interestingly enough an increase of average download from 20'b MBps (or significantly less at times) to 30's MBps in that same 24 hour period.  The download pre-reset was fine for my needs but the upload became so low that my WAN performance for working with colleagues from my rural location was getting very challenging.

Not the best increase in upload . . . what I had previously was very good and had it for quite a while.  But some increase for the immediate.

They couldn't tell me what happened early May that resulted in such a precipitious drop in upload speeds that had remained consistently low since.  Call me the doubting Thomas, but I sense somewhere in Telus they know . . .

A timely update . . . . more dismal wide variation in performance the past several months. No hardware changes at all since the previous updates.

I check out the telus coverage map; I'm in a part of East Central Alberta that has at best 4G LTE and judging by the pattern of 5G development further out in pretty much all directions, I sense no future interest of Telus in developing further.

Time to look at that disgusting pig Musk's 'Starlink'.

Have you spoken with our Mobility team recently about this so they could investigate and look in to further troubleshooting with you?

No, but I will do . . . . again . . . . and yet another round of the same . . . Telus tries, but I sense the answer is simply that this area of the province - surprisingly, is simply not a priority to them.  And I do suspect given there were periods of quiet reasonable performance, its a case of taxing of their system as a result.
