Discrepancy with Contract Terms and Collections Is

I was told there would be no contract just month by month before I signed up for home internet, but when I cancelled, they said there is no fee, two months later collections called me to tell Telus had put me in collections for around $400. When I called the agent did not care if the previous agent or supervisor clearly told me on call that there is no contract and even the beforehand. He transferred me to irrelevant agents and then cut call three times. He said he is investigating, but did not check the phone calls recorded, when I mentioned that he did not listen once and kept saying there cannot be no contract. Eventually forced me to pay to collections. I feel they straightforward did fraud. They are not willing to listen, not willing to look at recorded phone calls, there is no written agreement and thus they extorted $400 from me for no reason. Over four months of reaching out to them
