I accessed the recording from the box Telus provided (an old on I think) through the recordings menu. Yes, I absoluetly skip ahead through commercials since that's the whole point of the PVR for me. No, I do not think I pressed the skip to live button. Furthermore, why is there a button like that when you can't even provide the features that my VCR used to have? Like, how was that a priority?
What happened was I was watching the game, then the screen went black (as it has been doing more and more lately) and then it jumped to the live feed. I did not do anything for that to happen and it happened multiple times during the game. I have since figured out that fix it if I grab the remote in time, pause the black screen, rewind to a point with picture, and then fast forward back to where I was watching. This is extremely frustrating because I am already dealing with feeling lied to about your system since it is miles behind Shaw Blue Curve that I had before switching. I have been waiting for literal years for these features to be added.

5 months agoThanks for the detail. If you have an old set-top box with hard-drive PVR, then you are likely on the legacy Optik TV platform and the black screen and skipping ahead could indicate a failing hard-drive. If your hard drive is failing, tech support can send a refurbished PVR. I'm not familiar with what capabilities your VCR had, but if you'd like to share what these are, I can see what the team comes back with. One thing to note is that the legacy Optik TV system is a solution licensed from a 3rd party vendor; TELUS does not own the software development, and the vendor is no longer actively developing anything for that platform. So it's safe to assume that no new features will come to the recording functionality.
The next generation Optik TV system is actively developed in-house, so complaints and feature improvements are more directly addressable (though not always simple or fast). The team is working on items such as extending recordings for non-sports programs, recording teams across channels and other improvements. The screen that I shared showing a 'jump to live' button is from the telustvplus.com browser, which shares a player between live, restart and recordings. Many users find this button useful, for example if you're watching a game live, rewind to watch something over and want to jump back to live without fast forwarding. It's not for everyone though.

I do not have the old system. I have the new system/ Telus box and do not see a jump to live button while watching today’s game.
I have been waiting for almost three years for you to make the feature updates you mentioned. If this is truly an in house development, it is woefully inadequate. It’s 2025 and apps are made in days not years.
I think you should probably research what a VCR is if you don’t know. I’m looking for the BASIC ability to tell the box to record a certain channel from a start time I choose to an ended time I also choose.
