Sudden "long distance charges apply" messages on local calls incl when dialing *98

We are maintaining a landline for business use, and as of today we are getting the following message when calling local numbers (e.g. within the community):

"You have dialed a number to which long distance charges apply. Please dial the digit one before the number you are calling."

Also, voicemail is gone from the account. The phone just rings without option for customers to record a message.

When dialing *98 to try and access voicemail, the same message Please dial the digit one before the number you are calling is played. When adding 1 before *98 we get the message "please hang up and try your call again."

We tried all day to connect with Telus, because it sound like something went wrong with our account. However, each time we call, we are put on hold by a customer service rep, and the call gets disconnected.

This is a 30 year old land line that we have virtually never had issues with.

We tried disconnecting + unplugging the phone and reconnecting it. We tried accessing voicemail from a cell, but can't press * during the greeting, because there is no more greeting.

Is Telus having a glitch today? Any idea how to find out what went wrong?

Hi Natascha - if you are experiencing all these issues it's more than likely that it's a provisioning issue on our end. If you call us using your landline, part of troubleshooting or trying to fix the provisioning issue means that the number will be taken offline while work is being done so it's best to call using a different phone.
