Streaming optik TV via starlink

We have the full meal deal of Telus services at home.  Our RV came with a rooftop Shaw sat dish but I'm wondering if I could stream my Optic TV through my phone and a StarLink mini while camping.   Anyone have experience with this or any tips?

I was thinkin Starlink Residential 200 meg and buying a mini..?

  • I'll just be using this in BC close to home.
What data consumption are you talking about?  If I stream through StarLink's wifi I wouldn't be using any of my cell phone data.

Basically, since you aren't on your home network, the TELUS TV+ app treats the Starlink connection like a standard third-party streaming service. Because it doesn't recognize Starlink as "Home Internet," every show you watch counts against your Starlink data usage. Depending on your Starlink plan's "fair use" limits or prioritization, high-definition streaming can eat through that data fairly quickly.

No kidding!  I realize that, you made it sound like I'd be using up my cell data.

Utilizing the TELUS TV+ app which is available on iOS, Android, and most Smart TVs / Fire sticks, you can watch on the go. A few notes are that you'll want to ensure that you have Location Services turned on within your device, as broadcasting rights means that some channels may block live playback if they can't confirm you're still in Canada. Also of course, be mindful of data consumption as streaming can quickly eat up your allotment. One tip is to go in to the TELUS TV+ app settings and set the video quality to Medium or Data Saver. Should still look good enough but will cut data usage down significantly.
