23 days agoHi there, thanks for the detailed explanation. We can see you’ve done quite a bit of advanced configuration already.
Just to set expectations, when the TELUS gateway is in bridge mode and you’re using a third-party router with custom firmware (Asus Merlin), TELUS isn’t able to provide direct support for IPv6 behaviour beyond confirming that IPv6 is being delivered correctly to the gateway. In these setups, IPv6 handling, renewals, and stability are managed entirely by the third-party router and firmware. Because this involves custom firmware and third-party hardware, the best next steps would be:
- Reviewing Asus Merlin logs around the 2-hour mark for DHCPv6 or RA renewal errors
- Confirming DHCPv6-PD renewal timers in the router
- Checking Merlin community forums or documentation for known IPv6 PD issues with TELUS specifically

While your hardware may be capable, TELUS currently does not offer static IPv6 addressing to residential customers. IPv6 addresses are assigned dynamically, and the prefixes can change over time. This limitation isn’t based on your router or gateway hardware, it’s due to how TELUS provisions and manages IPv6 on the network side for residential services.

I'm just curious as I am currently an IT student and getting marks of 98% on final exams. is there anything that you know of that can help as a workaround? I have tried to create cronjob to keep the connection alive and also DDNS through controld as well as DDNS through my router with asus DDNS. I have spent literally 10 hours talking with the controld AI called barry and learned ALOT but i can not seem to figure it out, I will try as you suggest to review log files and see if I can find whats going on. Thanks so much for you help with this!
