Few Questions about parental blocks w ethernet jacks/wifi

Thanks for the advice.

Basically the short of it is, my kid doesn't seem to think that anything other than his xbox is a priority at this time in his life and i just would like the option to suspend his connection if he misses school, chores, etc. there is a jack in his room, which i dont mind deactivating from the wall.if need be so he only has wifi to rely on. i was trying to avoid this but it doesnt seem like there is any other option for ethernet connections at this point. 

as far as the connect app, its okay for me, but i still struggle trying to understand what exactly im looking at as far as the macs, band frequency and what to do with all of that stuff. i thought that getting access to the router itself might bring more understanding but it was only the opposite. 

in a nutshell, im not very savvy when it comes to this area of the internet connections lol.
