can't fast forward recorded program

New to Telus. 3 days in, I tried watching a program I had recorded. When I try to fast forward, a notice pops up on the top right of the screen saying the program does not allow fast forwarding. What??? I left my first love Shaw for this? Tell me it's not so.

  • Hi CCBE thanks for bringing this to our attention. Fast-forward rights for CBC Edmonton were misconfigured in the systems. The team has resolved it, so going forward, you should be able to fast forward your recordings on this channel.

We had this problem but on a different channel. Telus told us it's a channel setting that doesn't allow fast forward so Telus contacted the broadcaster and they altered the setting to allow for FF. And it worked after that.
  • Occasionally, I get the no fast forward message on the same show recorded at the same time. In my case where I notice it is 11pm news, that I want to fast forward to see if anything new happened. Maybe 1 in 20.

But yes some channels restrict for the advertisers.

  • Are you sure it was a recording? On demand shows have fast forwarding disabled by the broadcaster.

Well the note on the screen had that sort of statement, actually. I selected the program from the list and recorded it using the remote prompts. I selected that recorded program the next day. I thought I had recorded it from live TV. Ideas?

What channel were you watching/recording? There are a handful of channel providers that restrict fast-forward, even on recordings. Mediaset Italia, channel 2657, is one such example. The overwhelming majority of channels allow fast-forward on recordings, so if you share the channel we can make sure it's set up according to the provider's requirements.
