Re: Telus TV+ without home internet subscription?
I have access to free WiFi much of the time so I don't need to purchase much data. My average combined data usage for home and cell including high quality streaming is less than 200 GB. I did a trial a few months back... I pulled the plug on my home internet for a whole month and used my cell as a wireless WiFi modem for my office and entertainment centre PC's to see how well it worked over the 5G connection. It was way better than my wired internet connection. I bought a $70 GE digital antenna that picks up all the major Canadian and US TV networks for free (in return for having to watch commercials of course) in crystal clear audio and video. Telus wants over $100 every month including internet connection just to give you these same basic commercial channels? No thanks, that's what I call gouging. But it's not about the money, I can't support a company who treats its long-term customers as badly as Telus does. I'm keeping my Telus Mobility account for now as their cellular division has been relatively fair to deal with, but I may end up changing cell providers as well in the future. I have been a continuous customer of Telus since the merger with BC Tel in the 1990s, and I've never missed a monthly payment. I've seen their customer service level drop off a cliff and their simultaneous gouging of long term customers skyrocket these last few years, especially since the inauguration of their latest CEO. The last straw that made me decide to cancel my home internet, home telephone line and Optik TV service... I received a threatening demand letter from Telus in the spring saying that they were going to cut off my wired home internet service unless I upgraded to Fibre Optic. Optik TV Basics still requires a TELUS TV digital box for $10/month plus and internet connection for an additional $60 - 80/month minimum and is not available for streaming on devices such as mobile phones, tablets or PC's. So over $100/month for a handful of basic channels than I can stream for free over my 5G internet connection on my devices or over a digital antenna that has a one-time cost of under $100. No thanks. I'm already paying for internet in my mobility account. Telus must have heard me as only a couple hours after posting my rant I received an email offering a brand new service, Stream+, which combines Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime together with TELUS TV+ in one package, streamed over your mobile devices for an additional $23/month. This is what I've been waiting for! Thank you Telus for joining the streaming world!316Views0likes5CommentsTelus TV+ without home internet subscription?
Hi, Does Telus offer the TV+ streaming service without a home internet subscription? Paying $120 a month for basic cable to watch a handful of TV channels (many of which are available for free over digital antenna) is absolutely ridiculous when there are so many streaming services out there offering free streaming (commercials included). Commercial-free streaming services are available for a low monthly fee of between $15 and $25 per month. If Telus does offer TV+ for a reasonable, competitive monthly fee on top of my Telus Mobility subscription, I would be happy to add it. If not, it seems that Telus is missing out on a huge business opportunity which is concerning to me as a Telus shareholder. Many people I know are cancelling their Cable TV and home internet services as there are too many other competitive services out there at the moment.Solved453Views0likes8CommentsRe: recent plague of foreign scam callers
Thanks very much for the information, Nighthawk! I just added Call Control to my Telus Mobility account as you suggested, and hopefully that will eliminate or at least reduce the scam calls. Before I turned on Call Control, my cell's call history was showing another 11 incoming calls between 5:00am and 8:00am today! There have been no incoming calls since I turned it on, so it's looking good!1.4KViews0likes0Commentsrecent plague of foreign scam callers
In the past, I have been receiving a couple of scam phone calls to my cell number per week, easy enough to deal with. However, starting last week I have been receiving multiple calls per day... today in the 5 hour period between 9:15am and 2:15pm I received a total of 17 calls, all of them showing different numbers and area codes around Canada and USA on my call display. I have set my phone settings to "silence unknown callers", but this is still a major annoyance. On the couple of calls that I did answer, the caller speaks with a very heavy foreign accent, calling themself "Mike" or "John" or "Mary", then proceeds with the standard CRA or credit card or other scam script. How is it possible that a major telecommunications company either can not or will not eliminate incoming calls from India and China and other foreign countries and continues to enable these scammers? Why is it possible for people to fake their caller ID number? What's the point in even having call display? Is there an option to block all incoming foreign calls? I feel bad for the people who fall victim to these scammers, but there must be some accountability from the telecommunications companies that allow these scam calls to enter the country in the first place.Solved1.7KViews0likes2CommentsKeeping my telus.net email account
I am considering a temporary move overseas this summer to accept a position in the UK for a minimum two year term, and if that actually happens I would need to cancel my home internet service. However, I have had a telus.net email address for the last 20+ years with countless contacts and email history that I would like to continue using, as I will eventually be moving back to Canada. Is it possible to keep my telus.net email account if I cancel my Telus internet service?2KViews0likes2CommentsRe: Telus Reward Point Expiry
The timing of Telus' extremely poor decision to penalize their loyal long term customers by taking their reward points away without proper notice couldn't come at a worse time... when Canadians are being economically attacked from outside out borders, a Canadian corporation does this to Canadian customers? Horrible. And to this day there is still no mention of reward point expiry on their website, no emails, no letters to customers explaining the decision to take points away from people who in some cases have been saving them for years. They still act like no mistake was ever made and insist that a tiny message at the bottom of one paper bill (which many people don't even receive) one month before the expiration date was enough notice. I'm glad you were able to get a bill credit for your lost points after a while on the phone with them, but I feel bad for the people who haven't even realized that they have lost their reward points. It's time to look for a communications company that actually knows how to communicate and doesn't treat their loyal long term customers like this.4.7KViews1like0CommentsRe: Telus Reward Point Expiry
That’s the part I don’t understand…. How on Earth Telus thinks that posting a tiny notice at the bottom of one monthly paper bill (which most people don’t even receive anymore) less than two months in advance of the expiry date is acceptable communication! To this date they have not posted any explanation on the Reward Points page and there have been no letters or emails to customers. This from a communications company!4.8KViews1like0Comments
