Re: Noise problem at Telus building - 826 Yates St
A-B If your field team reads this entire discussion thread, they'll be fully up to speed on the situation. But if they'd prefer the Coles notes version: HVAC equipment failed on the rooftop back in the spring of this year. It was fixed for about a month then failed again. Since then, around May, the main HVAC system has been shutdown and the backup system has been running full time, which has been producing a loud noise on the rooftop. I think the backup system is quite old and probably struggling to keep up with the load, hence running hard and loud. Eventually it was determined that the main HVAC chiller had failed and needed fixing. Parts were ordered in the summer, and we were told in July that the repair would be completed around September. Noise reduction panels were applied to the backup HVAC system to its reduce noise, which seems to have help somewhat but the noise is still quite noticeable, even with apartment windows closed. A couple weeks ago, HVAC folks started the job of repairing the chiller. They've been out on the rooftop pretty much every day since then. It looks like a big job. We're hoping they finish soon so that the main (quiet) HVAC system can be turned on and the noisy backup system turned off. As of this morning, I don't hear much noise from the rooftop, but it could just be that the backup HVAC system is temporarily switched off. If your field team could let us know when the main HVAC repair is complete, that would helpful.9Views0likes0CommentsRe: Noise problem at Telus building - 826 Yates St
Annex Yes, the lack of response from TELUS_Support over the last 3 months is pretty bad. We were told "a couple months" back in July - it's now been 5 months and still not fixed and yes, even with the windows closed, I can still hear the noise. Having said that, I have seen workers out on the rooftop there pretty much every day for more than 2 weeks now working on the HVAC equipment. So it seems like they're at least making some progress. Hopefully it'll be resolved soon.19Views0likes1Comment- 34Views0likes10Comments

Hi El-Eric, thanks for the reply. I've been running my fan non-stop to try and cancel out the noise so I hadn't noticed the change from the acoustic enclosures earlier. I just turned my fan off and yes, the noise is around 50% less than before, so the enclosures are helping, that's good to know. The last update we received on the timeline for full resolution of the upgrades was given on July 14th where we were told it would be a couple months to finish the work. Since we're past that point now, would it be possible to get another timeline update from the team?33Views0likes12CommentsRe: Noise problem at Telus building - 826 Yates St
Annex Yes, it does appear that we've been ghosted by Telus Support :( Rather surprising as they seemed quite responsive in the beginning and I felt like we were not asking for anything unreasonable. I'm a Telus Internet customer as well. I think there's a form we can fill out on the Telus website that guarantees a management team member will respond - I'll have a look and see if I can find it as we're clearly past the 2 month timeframe estimate that we were last given.71Views0likes14CommentsRe: Noise problem at Telus building - 826 Yates St
TELUS_Support Hi again, I've left 2 replies here (and tagged TELUS_Support in both) over the last 2 weeks but haven't heard back. Can you please reply to my messages? For reference, here are the links to both: https://forum.telus.com/discussions/smarthomesecurity/noise-problem-at-telus-building---826-yates-st/167503/replies/173052 https://forum.telus.com/discussions/smarthomesecurity/noise-problem-at-telus-building---826-yates-st/167503/replies/173271 Thank you.64Views0likes0CommentsRe: Noise problem at Telus building - 826 Yates St
TELUS_Support Hi there, I'm checking in again.... 5 weeks ago you told us: "We've been advised from the area manager that his team is looking in to it, and they'll work on having the sound diminished asap." Since then we have not been provided with any plan as to how or when the sound will be diminished. All we have been provided with is an estimate on the full resolution timeline. We were expecting the sound diminishing to happen fairly soon, while they work on the full resolution, so the lack of any update regarding the sound is concerning. We're all trying to be patient but it's really taking its toll on many residents. I'd like to request that the sound diminishing process be escalated as it's been impacting hundreds of people (7 apartment buildings) in the 1 block radius for many months now and no progress seems to be happening on it thus far besides "we're looking into it". What is the process for escalation if we're not satisfied with the current outcome / progress? Who gets involved next?50Views0likes1Comment
