Discovery channels shows gone

What the heck?? All Discovery channels are now changed and many shows that we watch are no longer available. Why didn’t Telus announce this prior to us losing the channels? Will we be compensated since our agreement included these channels and now telus removed them???

It looks like that's more of a Rogers concern TBH - they appear to be being anticompetitive by not distributing it anywhere but Rogers. It's not available on any third party provider, including ones that specifically indicated they were trying to obtain access: The great Canadian specialty TV shuffle begins, but it’s not going well for you | **bleep**stein

Hello! It was announced via the Optik guide as well as with bill messaging in advance. Many programs that were on the Discovery suite have moved exclusively to Crave and Discovery+, both of which are available to subscribe to!

According to the shaw website they still have discovery. Does this mean you want us to subscibe to shaw and leave telus?

So I have a contract agreement that included these channels. Now Telus has taken them away and wants me to pay to subscribe to them?? This doesn't make sense. I am already paying to have these channels.\

All impacted channels have been replaced with new networks and programming as of January 1, 2025. While this wasn't a decision made by us, we do hope the channels that came in their place are just as entertaining!

Unfortunately the new programming  offered by telus does not include a number of popular shows originally offered with discovery, which was included in my original channel package. I now have to pay an extra fee to access Discovery + which seems to be the only choice to gain access to these shows.

No but Telus has made the decision to not carry the new Discovery Channel and others from Rogers.

Looks like the link is being altered by Telus' content filtering, but if you google the article title "The great Canadian specialty TV shuffle begins, but it’s not going" you'll find it.

No the new speed channel just has old reruns like monster garage! Really????

They did announced it on TV saying that it was provider initiated shut down. You can find more info if you Google it.  The official line is:

The Discovery Channel is not shutting down, but it is rebranding as the USA Network on January 1, 2025. This is part of a realignment of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) networks in Canada, which also includes:

  • OxygenReplacing ID, which will focus on true crime
  • CTV WildReplacing Animal Planet
  • CTV NatureReplacing Discovery Science
  • CTV Speed ChannelReplacing Discovery Velocity

The rebranding is intended to broaden the scope of the Discovery Channel to include more entertainment programming.

Not happy, where is deadliest catch? Where is gold Rush? All the replacement stuff is a joke, I’m really feeling ripped off.

As was mentioned earlier in the thread, several channels have undergone rebranding or have been removed / moved to discovery+ due to changes in content distribution agreements. We have a page up at our website detailing the changes here: https://www.telus.com/en/support/article/discovery-channel-changes-rebrand

These industry-wide changes are beyond our control, and we do encourage you to consider subscribing to discovery+ to continue watching a lot of the programs if you'd like!
