Why is my visual voicemail in my iPhone X delayed when trying to listen to the msg on the phone app..take 30 seconds or so to play and volume when listening isn’t very good.

The phone has to download the audio file to the application for you to hear the message. If this hasn't happened before you connect your phone to the network, there can be a delay as the files transfer.

No there’s a delay regardless of how old the msg is

Interesting. I haven't had VVM on my account for a number of years now, so can't offer direct experience on iPhone X, sorry.

Word is that Name Display is to be rolled out this year sometime. No schedule has been posted to my recollection.

Unless they are in my contact list, yes.

Name display is already enabled on inbound calls.  It started rolling out in late May 2017.  Mine started working around mid July should be rolled out everywhere by now or just about.  Most calls from Canada landlines, businesses, and Rogers/fido send the "NA Name Display" field through the phone network signalling system.  No address book entry required.  Actually if you do have a match in your addressbook it will ALWAYS take precedence over what the network sent.

Outbound name display is what does not work yet.  So people you call from your Telus mobility line will not get a name, only your number no matter what system they are on.
