Unlock fm radio function on telus network.

NextRadio requires a special piece of software to activate and control the FM chip. Some carriers have provided access. After  December first 2017 will this function be unlock as well for emergency purpose in Canada like in the USA

NextRadio is nothing but spam. They are the only company pushing really really hard for two years to get FM activated so you really have to wonder what their motives are, aside from collecting your personal information, location, etc. They've set up two separate websites for FM and even a petition that has a pathetic 1900 signatures on it, assuming they're all real and valid. Now if it was the Canadian broadcasters themselves pushing for this, that would be a whole other issue than NextRadio, an American company.

FM is also blocked by some device manufacturers so not all devices can get it. I'd rather listen to my music rather than FM as it is.

As for unlocking FM December 1st, can't find one supporting new story posting that supports that claim. Users will be able to carrier unlock their phones for free at that point but nothing to do with FM.

you should have read completely i was talking about emergency (that is when there is no cellular connection anymore) like Alberta forest fire, Quebec flooding, etc... when the only way to have information is thru radio broadcast. By the way i have a samsuns S8+ with the FM chip and it is working great in USA (you know they have Flooding, Hurricane and that sort of thing down south). So i just hope that Telus will be the first Canadian Compagny to help service Canadian community in time of emergency.

Actually I was just reading a news article this afternoon about how people were NOT warned or getting information in a timely manner because SMS messages were delayed and also some towers were down - with regards to the fires in Sonoma area of California wine country.

Also, when I have been in the USA at times - Seattle, Texas, Louisiana - I've received warnings using something called a "Flash SMS" which takes over the full screen of all the phones in the area.

I've heard nothing about what you're talking about.  And I am not in support of FM radios being turned on in phones.  You should have an emergency radio and preferably one that you can crank charge.

I use NextRadio on Telus with no issues. I do have an unlocked Galaxy Note 8. NextRadio uses little to no data (you can turn off mobile data and it still works), and it's great to have if there is an emergency. The comments about it being spam is laughable, and I sure am glad I have the choice of FM radio over not having access to it. There are other radio apps out there that you can use too if NextRadio isn't your cup of tea, which by the way originally was a Canadian company...not that it really matters. I personally don't care if my apps are Canadian, France, Taiwan, or USA...if they work and suit my needs, that's all I care about.

For this function to be unlocked*, a physical FM chip would have to already be present in the phone.
As for December 1st, it's regarding carrier locks only (so far).

I know m'y s8+ have a snapdragon chip equip with thé FM tuner

Hi Twitchy, TELUS doesn't block radio functionality. It's up to the manufacturer's what features are supported on the devices. There are some phones such as the Moto G , M9, and most Blackberry 10.2 devices (or higher) that use the headset as an antenna and have radio functionality.
