Re new rules surrounding cell phone services

Just Moved In

I have a telus mobility account, and an IPhone,  and when I travel from Canada to United states or Mexico or whatever, I used to be able to hook up to WIFI and text back to Canada to another IPhone.    The last time I was in the US, as soon as I tried,Telus message came up and said I was getting charged roaming.  No matter what I tried I could not text.

Is there anyway of texting from Canada to the US, or another country.

I am confused about the new rules in place effective Dec. for Cell phones.  Can I change the SIM card in my IPhone to a pay and talk/text while I am in the US.

Hi, you'll paying roaming fees if you use either the voice service, regular text or network data. If you connect to Wi-fi, Telus cannot be charging you roaming fees. So every message application like (Twitter, Facebook, Imessage, emails) won't be using a mobile network so no roaming charges.

You should still be able to email and iMessage from a wifi connection. Make sure you have your phone set up to try to iMessage first to that particular number.

You can unlock your phone through Telus for $35 if it has been in service for 90 days, or is fully paid (pre- paid phone or purchased outright).
