I did the trip last year.... some tips...

  • if you have more than one phone, it's great to keep in touch with everyone, especially with so many activities.  Are you in the gym or buffet?  Can someone run ahead and hold a seat in the show?
  • turn OFF the roaming when on the boat.  Cruise ships have repeaters that have very large roaming charges as some are based in the Carribean.
  • if you have a outside cabin, you can have Telus coverage/reception from Vancouver to Prince Rupert.  There are some deadzones along the way, but plan your use when you are near communities with reception.  Going up to the top deck helps with reception too!
  • Why pay for slow ship wifi when you have Telus data?
  • if your phone is unlocked, get a pre-paid ATT sim card in nearby Bellingham or an Alaskan port.  ATT has the best reception in Alaskan ports.
  • don't forget to get some fresh Alaskan crab while in port!
  • enjoy a stop at the Red Onion while in Skagway

Yes do enjoy your cruise...  plan your shore excursions early to avoid sell-out dissappontment.
