In order to receive messages you will need to have either a feature on your account or a balance high enough to cover the value of the SMS message. So if you are at $0 with no features you will not receive text messages and would need to top up.

Yes, you'll need to get $10, $25, $50 or $100 card to be able to text.

Regular rates Telus has at the moment are:
-Pay per use $0.30 per sms out or incoming.
-Pay per use $0.50 per MMS *multimedia messages such picture or video*
