Does airplane mode save from roaming charges?

I will be going to Mexico next week and was plan on using my phone for pictures only. If my phone is on air plan mode will I have roaming charges?

In general yes.
-on some phones you can override the airplane mode for cell service
-sim card removal will guarantee there is no roaming service
-you do know that a camera will give you better quality than a phone.

If you only want the phone for taking pictures... leave the phone at home and bring a camera.

As xl mentioned, airplane mode generally will prevent you from accruing roaming charges. However various phones and apps may at times over-ride those settings (often times you will be prompted though). So the only sure way is to remove the sim-card as previously mentioned.

Wasn't looking for recommendations on how to take my pictures. Plus my phone has 13mp camera and if I don't have to bring another electronic device that's even better.
