Bought a standard sim card, put it in old koodo phone, unable to register on network.

Just Moved In

Let me preface by saying I am a long time Telus customer, I currently have a family plan with 3 lines on it and haven't had any issues with Telus yet.

Today I went into Telus with my SM-G386W, previously bought with Koodo about 5 years ago, inquiring about pay as you go plans. I ended up going with the $22 option, bought a SIM Card, a $25 prepaid card and the rep helped set up the SIM.

It has been 6 hours now and I'm still unable to register on the network. It takes a long time to search for them and then an even longer time to attempt to connect before it times out and tells me to try again later.

I've tried changing the APN settings, the flight mode on/off thing, I've called to see if for some reason the IMEI was blacklisted (it wasn't), restarting countless times, and I can't seem to get it working.

I can't test the SIM in my other phones as it's a micro vs a nano card.

any ideas? help would be greatly appreciated. The ladies at the Telus store here said there's really no reason for it not to work, although it could take up to 2 hours for the activation to go through, but here we are.

Was it working on Koodo immediately before switching? I’m wondering if there is a problem with the device itself. I expect if you took the phone to a Koodo outlet, they can confirm if it is working on their network.

Although Koodo phones should work on the Telus network, unlocking might, in rare cases, be needed for older phones.

APN usuallly relates to data problems. The phone should connect to the voice network regardless.
