I have an S4 and am receiving text messages with pictures/video. The file sizes are all under 300KB but they have a white box that says download. When I press download, it looks like it is downloading, takes a while and then jumps back to the white box. I've checked my download folder and there is nothing. Any idea as to how I can open these pictues?

Make sure you're on data as downloading MMS on WiFi doesn't work. Also, is receiving MMS enabled on your account? Check online.

Can you use the web? Can you send a picture to yourself and try it? Maybe the other device sending the picture is not compatible? Were you able to receive pictures before?
I had a similar issue and it turns out it was the other person's phone having the issues, not mine.

I removed the battery and put it back in. Downloads worked. Verizon said the card was going bad and needs to be replaced.
