It may well depend on the equipment the call is routed through to arrive at your phone. Since, to my knowledge, Telus does not offer caller ID (a name associated with a number), most calling numbers are recognized by the receiving phone by a lookup in your contacts list

While I don't think it's enabled by default, at least it wasn't on any of mine, I do have enabled it on my lines. Have a look at Outbound Calling Name Display. The add-on shows on my lines as "Outbound Calling Name Display" at $0.00.
