No LG G3 on TELUS?!

So MobileSyrup just announced that LG Canada has announced that the G3 is coming to Rogers, Bell, Videotron, Sasktel and MTS.

What happened TELUS?

What's with the ridiculous device availability? I get that TELUS is #2 in subscribers and I've had the BEST service out of all the mobile service providers with them.

But the amount of great devices that TELUS passes on is ridiculous.

Whoever makes the device decisions needs to be checked on.

TELUS carries the Galaxy Mega, but not the LG G3?!

This needs to change. And quick. I already know a bunch of people who are now considering leaving TELUS Mobility because of this choice to not carry it.

First the Moto X, then the Xperia Z2, and now the LG G3.

TELUS is missing the train on some pretty amazing phones.

Are they just not willing to play ball, or is it that they feel customers will be fine with Samsung and Apple?

Enough with the Samsung devices, people want a good breadth of choice for phones.

Having millions of Galaxy S5's and iPhone 5s' might work for some people, but for the people who want to be ahead of the curve, or want more choice than Samsung or Apple, this just won't work.

The other wireless companies seems to understand that having the newest, shiniest device on their shelves will bring in new customers.

TELUS has been great with keeping my service through their fantastic customer service so far, but the lack of device availability is making it really hard to stay.

I too  am so disappointed as well.  The LG G3  phone is definitely the phone I want.  I guess that means I will have to change companies.  Too bad because I have been with them for a long time.  This phone was rated the best of 2014 and being one of the largest companies they decide NOT to make it available to their customers!

If they won't give us what we want then they should be prepared to lose their customers. Is there any way we can all protest to the company.  It might make a difference.

I am so pissed at telus right now. I was hoping to renew my 3 year contract with them since i only have 4 months remaining but they fail to get another android flagship phone. 2 of the phones i want were sony Z2 and Lg G3, and they fricking didnt get it. F.u Telus u #$%%ers, there goes 2 of your 10 year loyal customers (+family member. Going to rogers.

This report on Cult of Mac might describe one reason for the device mix at Telus:

According to ComScore, 169 million cellphone users in the U.S. use smartphones — representing around 70 percent of all mobile users.

Of these, Apple can lay claim to 41.9 percent of users, while runner-up Samsung has captured 27.8 percent of the market. After Samsung, the numbers drop dramatically to 6.5 percent for LG, 6.3 percent for Motorola, and 5.1 percent for HTC.

Its all a numbers game with smartphones these days. Carriers pay the manufacturers money to have the exclusive rights to have certain devices or colors and carriers choose what they carry based on previous models sales. As much as i would like to see Telus carry the LgG3 I Understand why they would not if the g2 did not sell well. In saying that though never say never as consumer hype and demand for a device has won over before when consumers wanted Rogers to carry the Blackbery Z30 and they did.

Telus does offer other phones besides Samsung and Apple, Blackberry, Htc and Nokia are 3 right off the top.

Yah, but those 2 flagship phones are probably the most anticipated phones of 2014 alongside htc and google if they plan on releasing another device.

The G3 I agree is a true flagship, but the Z2 was just meh for me.

There is nothing stopping you from buying them and using them on TELUS though. When your contract expires, get the BYOD discount and that'll make up for the cost of the phone. 🙂

I'm not sure why everyone is so upset by this. The G3 is just O.K. Cramming a bunch of high-tier specs into a phone isn't impressive anything. What Microsoft and Apple are doing is super cool - they're building full ecosystems.

You know what, what Apple has done definitely has some merit. However the Android ecosystem encourages rapid and innovative development and growth as there is competition within the ecosystem itself.
You may enjoy what Microsoft and Apple are doing, but I'm not a big fan of the whole closed, walled garden approach.
Also, while Apple is a good example of a full ecosystem; Microsoft's mobile department is hardly something worth bragging about right now.

I'm not sure what you mean by rapid and innovative when writing about Android. The Android ecosystem still tends to trail iOS is app releases, with iOS usually the first to the market (and almost always better looking than Android). It's not as much of a walled garden on iOS anymore, especially if you jailbreak your device.

As for Microsoft, they still have more to offer than most OEMs.

HTC is on the verge of collapse. Samsung is starting to cannibilize their own marketshare by pumping out a ton of devices (it's confusing and hard to keep up). LG, well, they have one good phone per year, but they just aren't as pretty to look at as some of their competitors. Haha

Companies like Motorola get it. Focus not on what you can do with your phone, but what your phone can do for you...without human intervention. I'm excited to see the new X or X+1 or whatever they are calling it.

It'll be interesting to see what other companies like Oppo and OnePlus do in the future too.

Hi jacetenor, I guess you really wanted that phone but don't blame your mobile provider since sometimes, the manufacturers will gave exclusive offers to some specific mobile providers when it comes to some new hardware. If Telus is not getting it, they'll most likely get a similar hardware or another exclusive deal. I'm not an LG fan so it doesn't change much for me and don't forget that the Nexus device is similar to the LG G2 so I'm guessing that the next LG G3 will be similar to the next Nexus device. In the end, I just wanted to say that you can't blame your provider when it comes to a specific device.

See, with the Z2, I would have agreed with you wally_west, but with the G3, TELUS is the only major who isn't carrying it, and speaking with in-store employees, they did tell me that the reason they didn't carry it was TELUS didn't think it would sell. Oh well, I'm a huge advocate for buying unlocked anyways, so it'll be the next Nexus for me.

I agree with you, it's weird that Telus won't be getting the G3 since the other providers will. The thing that we don't know is who's responsible for this situation, the provider or the manufacturer? Honestly, I'm not an LG fan since they seem to try to copy Samsung's devices but not as reliable. I had the LG Optimus , the first LTE device and I returned it after 8 days, got another one and similar issues so I gave up on LG. It's a personal choice when it comes to choosing a phone but I prefer to choose a mobile provider before choosing a specific handset. The Nexus seems to be a good choice since these phones will normally get the Android updates right away.
