Credit Check

I'm 18 and I want to buy a phone plan with Telus but I do not have a credit card. I do have a Social insurance number, and would be paying with my CIBC Debit card. How will the credit check go and can I open an account Telus? Will there be any problems?

Hi there! To legally activate on postpaid service (term or month to month), you must be of legal age in your province of residence along with 2 of the following IDs and you will be good to proceed with a credit check.

  • Social Insurance Number (optional, but preferred)
  • Canadian major credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express)
  • Non-expired Driver's License number, Province of issue, and the expiry date
