I ordered a 5g hub and signed up for a new plan. I was sent an external hub setup. The installer kindly installed an inside model. I am left with the external system. One agent told me to mail it back or sell it. Any thoughts about this?

The reason @ichi730 was asking which hub it was is because there are two. The Wifi Hub for fibre, and the Smart Hub for cellular. You posted under the home internet forum where the discussion is typically about the Wifi Hub.
For me, it would be weird to see them tell you to sell a new device. I'd have assumed they wanted it returned. I'd call them again and see if they can give you a return label so that it can be sent back.
