Does the Fibre equipment need the battery backup to work?

I’ve had two major power outages in the last month and after both the battery backup for my ONT beeps incessantly. Given this keeps happening, I’m wondering if the equipment needs the battery or can it work without it. I know it’s there for home phone service during a power outage but I only have cordless phones so I can’t use the equipment anyways. I’m just tired of having to spend an extended time on hold with support to find a resolution.

@Nighthawk @TELUS_Support  any thoughts would be helpful.

You need a new AC cord with inline brick for AC to DC for the ONT.  My ONT is an Alcatel.   @giantbrownguy

My fibre install did not include a backup battery from Telus for the ONT, so yes it can work without it. I added my own APC UPS as a backup instead. The UPS is a much larger battery and I have the ONT, my T3200, and my main cordless phone base station connected to that UPS for power. During my last power outage, the fibre and internet stayed online.

Edit: I don't know how Telus's battery connects to the ONT so I don't  know if it's an easy thing to disconnect or not.

Thanks Nighthawk. The only issue I can find is it seems there’s no independent power on my ONT, so not sure how to power it if I disconnect the battery. Though I need to take a closer look, that seemed very odd.
