Scam calls (with list)

I made the mistake of answering a scam call from "Telus Fibre Support" and now they call 4-5 times a day, always from a different number. I'm listing the ones I still have.

I can confirm that these numbers do not belong to us.

We do not use local-area numbers to call customers. We always call through one of our 1-866 numbers listed on our website and your call display will show TELUS on the screen.

I get these calls too at least 3-5 times a week and even after I identify myself as a TELUS employee they still attempt their scam.

As Nighthawk mentioned, try out Call Control and it will stop these auto-calls from reaching you

I finally got to speak with someone within Telus.

The call didn't start well. Even though I said my [same sex] husband the agent kept calling him Mrs. In 2025 I thought we were beyond that, so exhausting.

Your colleague [hopefully] took me off all Telus related marketing calls. So now I will know any Telus related marketing phone calls will be a scam, this is the goal I've been trying to reach for about a month.

The agent didn't know the legitimate phone numbers/prefixes that Telus staff call from.

The agent still tried to sell me something when I was talking talking to him which frankly didn't feel good.

Prior to getting the callback I went through the Message Us section on the app. First going through the bot/AI that churns out rubbish, then through to an agent who kept sending me irrelevant copy/paste messages.

While Telus infrastructure is fantastic, we never get unplanned downtime, etc, I have to say the admin side is getting worse and has a huge scope to improve.

  • I've been receiving calls from two numbers:

    1 844 372-189 and 1 647 475-0348

It's my understanding that Telus does not make unsolicited calls.

Neither of those are Telus numbers either. Consider both to be scams.

All but one of those numbers are associated with Iristel. That's a well known Canadian VoIP provider that seems to sell services to scammers frequently. The exception is the 833 toll free one. That one has been around for a while and possibly could be valid depending on which discussion you look at online. It's still possible for the scammers to spoof the caller ID to show a valid number.

If you are using Telus or Koodo, turn on Call Control. It should block all of the robocalling scammers.

Is it correct we can write to a privacy email address at Telus to come off their marketing telephone call lists?

If we are off that list then we know that any non-prearranged call from Telus is likely to be a scammer.

Personally I do the following because of the barrage of Telus related calls:

      1. Never answer the phone unless I recognise the number. People shouldn't be scared to answer their own phones.
      2. Ask the caller to verify themselves by asking them difficult questions ie on 5th June what telephone number did I call. [at this point they usually tell me to "f" off and put the phone down - 🤣].
      3. Block dodgy looking numbers. This is easy on the iPhone. On my home phone I do this on my actual device, if they call again it rings for a second then just cuts them off.
      4. Ensure every phone number in the household is registered on the Do Not Call Register. For every Telus scammer that calls make a complaint to the CRTC. Look them up/register the number on the Yellow Pages website. ScamAdviser can be a useful resource as well.

Rather each of us going through this labour intensive task I would be interested in knowing what Telus is doing about this. I was with Vodafone and BT in the UK and never experienced anything quite like this.

Complaining to the CRTC about any of the scam calls isn't going to work. They don't deal with those. Their page here spells out the reporting process for scam calls.

As I said below, Telus has provided Call Control as a solution. I have gotten zero scam calls since enabling it.
