Mystery device

Can someone identify this device which was installed above my household doorbell chime at the same time as a new doorbell camera was installed?

Does it make sounds or does it need battery replacement?  If so, how do I access the battery - it seems fairly firmly attached to the wall.

Thanks

  • Thanks.  I wondered about that sort of thing.  But there's no visible connection between the device and the chime.  And we had a previous (Telus) doorbell camera that seems not to have needed any such assistance. I think this is not the answer.

If there are no physical wires, it's a Wireless Smart Chime and Wi-Fi Extender. It basically performs the same function, but instead it acts as a dedicated 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal booster specifically for your camera to prevent video lags or dropouts.

The device mounted above your doorbell chime there is a Doorbell Chime Adapter (also known as a digital chime module). It's primary function is acting as a power regulator and signal bridge between your low-voltage doorbell wiring and your new video camera. It's needed because doorbell cameras draw continuous power to record and stream video. Without this adapter connected to your internal chime terminals, the constant electrical draw can cause traditional mechanical chimes to buzz or hum constantly, or even prevent the chime from ringing at all when someone presses the button outside.
