Creating a second WiFi network with integrated WiFi hub/ONT

Hi,

I have the integrated Telus Wifi Hub/ONT (tall white cylindrical device where the fibre optic cable plugs directly into the hub).

I want to create a second wifi network (ideally with its own unique IP address since Telus allows for 2 public IP addresses) for guest use separate from my own personal network (want more security than the built-in guest network).

What's the best way to go about this?

Would it be to set Port 1 of the wifi hub to bridge mode, and plug in a router directly to Port 1 of the wifi hub? Would this allow the guests to access the internet via the router, and myself to continue access via the telus wifi hub?

Or do I need to plug a switch first into Port 1 of the wifi hub, and then have that connect to two separate routers?

Many thanks!

  • The simplest way is to setup the guest network on your existing router.

Your Option 1 would give you a separate isolated WiFi regardless of how you set it up but your Option 2 would not unless you set it up as a guest WiFi.
