Am I able to get a phone without a plan if I'm paying monthly for the phone?

If you are buying a phone on a payment plan, you have to select a current phone plan. You can keep your number and SIM, but if you want to spread your payments over a number of months, you’ll need a fresh contract.
You might be able to buy a phone outright at a retail location, and keep your same plan.
