Moved to a new address, TELUS says fiber service transferred but speed is only 80Mbps

I moved the other day and the old and new place both have fiber. The new place has a Nokia ONT in the network closet but hooking that up to the same router I had in the old place or plugging directly into my computer only gets 88Mbps down. No where close to the gigabit I’m paying for.

I’ve phoned TELUS support three times but we keep talking in circles as apparently plugging my computer or router directly into the Nokia ONT isn’t “using TELUS provided equipment”.

I’m thinking I’m using the old persons internet but they are ensuring me I am not.

How do I get the internet to work?

  • Did you schedule to have you service moved to the new location?

Turns out after four phone calls, being transferred between support and customer service, no one actually “finished the transfer” on their end. Finally someone I talked to noticed no one actually turned on the service and I was still using the old owners service. I can’t believe it took all those calls and people just for them to realize no one activated it.
