phone number change
I have called in to change my phone number since I preferred another area code, that asked a payment for that.
Is this the process? Do I have to pay for that? what is your experience?

Generally if call in or get the number changed in store there will be a fee involved unless changing provinces. In order avoid the fee you should be able to change the number in your My TELUS account under Plans/Devices and manage my phone number.
