I Just Got Fleeced By Telus Call Center Employee
I ordered a new iPhone 17 Pro online last night on a new 'Bring It Back' plan, but the confirmation emails showed that they had one number wrong in my shipping address. So I called in today to correct the mistake. Telus doesn't like people calling in, and tries its best to force its AI chatbot on you, but I was able to finally talk to a real person. And, like Tim Hortons, Telus doesn't like to hire Canadians, so that person was in the Philippines. My "helper" was JM. All I wanted JM to do was correct the shipping address by changing the one number. Nope. JM said he had to reprocess the whole order. This was a painful, unnecessary ordeal. JM said that I had to prove who I was, and insisted on a picture of my driver's license and a corresponding selfie - BTW, if my personal info, or identity, is compromised, I'll be suing the bejeezus out of Telus and JM. Then, JM finally said I was me, and asked me to confirm the plan that I wanted. I told him that I had picked the $95/month -200GB plan. He said thank you for confirming, and did more reprocessing. He then told me that I had to pay an $80 connection fee. This fee had been waived last night when I ordered online. I told him that fact, and he said 'oh yes, as a long time customer(23 years), he can make a "one-time exemption" and waive that fee'. He didn't. Not only did JM NOT waive the $80 connection fee, he arbitrarily changed my plane to the $105/175 GB plan that I didn't want. Plus and another unnamed $10/month fee that makes my plan $115 dollars/month, not the $95 I had expressly chosen. So now I'm paying more for less, not sure if my new phone is even going to arrive, and I'm not sure how to correct it.125Views1like1CommentInternet Is Not What It Should Be.
I am having issues with my internet speed. I pay for Telus150, and I am getting wi-fi speeds of 7-10 Mbps during a speed test, even after unplugging the router for a while. When wi-fi was slow in the past, I would unplug the router once every two weeks, and speeds would be what I should expect based on what I'm paying for. Then it became once a week that the router needed to be unplugged to get normal wi-fi speed. Now I can unplug the router, and when it is powered back on, I only get a fraction of the speed I'm supposed to be getting. I've noticed buffering issues during streaming as well, even though my streaming equipment is hooked up to an ethernet cable and not on the wi-fi. Is my router cooked? I've had it for a while. It's a T3200M. I'm curious about the router because my OptikTV goes through it as well, and there has been issues with the onscreen image very recently. I received a text from a Telus number(777222) about two weeks ago, and they said they had noticed issues with my service while performing a routine service check. I hadn't noticed anything wrong with the picture up to then, but since receiving the text, there has been noticeable freezing and pixelation on the screen from my OptikTV. Does the router need replacing?989Views0likes1CommentWi-Fi Signal Strength Weakening
Greetings! I have a question about the wi-fi signal from my Telus home internet weakening. I upgraded to Telus 150 home internet last March, and I've noticed that the wi-fi signal isn't as strong as it should be. I should be getting anywhere from 80-100 Mbps, but it's nowhere near that. I know that it's a wi-fi problem, because my laptop is tethered via an ethernet cable to the modem, and it never seems to have signal degradation. I upgraded for a reason, and now we're having issues watching Youtube videos on one tablet when that's the only thing using internet at the time. Streaming anything through Netflix, Disney, or Amazon is almost impossible. If I unplug the modem, and let it sit for a while and the turn it back on, the wi-fi signal strength is back where it should be, but it gradually goes back down to somewhere in between the 3-8 Mbps range over the next few days. So what I'm curious about is, is that normal? Should a one-year-old modem be having that issue? Is it harmful to the equipment to have to unplug and reinitialize the modem that frequently? I talked to the manager at a local Telus outlet, and she said that a one-year-old modem should not be doing that, but she deals primarily with Telus Mobility so she's not 100% sure. According to her, you should only have to unplug the modem once in a blue moon to revive wi-fi strength, but like I said, she's not 100% certain. Anybody have any thoughts? Is my modem defective, or is this normal? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!Solved6.7KViews0likes3CommentsRe: My Internet Is Slower Since Upgrading
Thank you again for the reply! After reading through the pages from the link you've provided, I'm pretty sure that the TELUS tech did all of that when he was here. He was on his laptop for about 20 minutes, and he said that he had changed things so that all of my devices won't need the wifi passwords changed. Also, there is only one wifi network with my router's name that appears available to choose from, not two. I think that he's already combined the 2.4 and 5GHZ frequencies, but I'm not 100% sure of that. Is there a way to check?11KViews0likes1CommentRe: My Internet Is Slower Since Upgrading
Okay. Your screen capture didn't show up in the post as I see it, but I was able to do some digging(through Settings and Device Manager) and I was able to find that info for my laptop. The Protocol that is listed is 802.11n. The link speeds keep changing. In Settings, on the Network And Internet page, when I go to WiFi and click on the Network Properties, the link speed is different every time. The first time, the link speed was 26/26 Mbps, but I've checked it several times since and the values keep changing. 117/117, 104/104, 87/87, 130/130, and back to 117/117 Mbps. I tried a speed test right away while the link speed said 117/117 and the download speed in the speed test was 0.52 Mbps. Upload speed was 26.4 Mbps.11KViews0likes3CommentsRe: My Internet Is Slower Since Upgrading
I appreciate your responses. The tech did install a new router when I upgraded. I brought an Ethernet cable home from work and connected it to my laptop. The download speed was 88.9 mbps while connected through the Ethernet cable. A lot better, but still a ways from 150. I disconnected the cable and did another test immediately after over the WiFi again, and the speed was 20.9. A speed test over Wifi on my iPad was 70.9(80.0 with the OptikTV off, if that makes a difference). If there's a setting on my laptop that will adjust WiFi speeds, I'm not sure how to access it. Also, one other thing I've noticed last night and today since - there have been moments where the internet connection will drop right off. I can see the WiFi strength indicator in the task bar lose it's signal bars, and the OptikTV will cut out at the same time. My other devices lose the internet and switch to LTE at the same time. I wonder if I got a defective router?11KViews0likes5CommentsMy Internet Is Slower Since Upgrading
I have an issue with my Telus internet that I'm hoping someone might have an idea about. Today, I upgraded from Internet 25 to Internet 150, and my internet speeds are slower after the upgrade. According to the Telus website, I should be getting download speeds up to 150 mbps. I'm not even close to that. Initially, the speeds were great. Right after the tech left, my download speed was 102.9 mbps, my upload speed was pushing 50 mbps, and I was pretty pleased with that. Shortly after, it went down hill in a big way. There has been a noticeable downgrade in internet performance on my laptop. Pages aren't loading as fast as they did with Internet 25, and videos that never would have needed buffering, are now taking forever to play. I have done some speed tests since I noticed the issue, and the numbers are not good. In the 4+ hours since the tech left, my DL speeds in mbps are, 4.2, 9.0, 2.4, 18.9, 3.95, 15.4, 13.64, 21.6, and 14.29. UL speeds are comparable. I've restarted all of my devices, and unplugged the new router twice. Has anyone had this issue after upgrading to Internet 150? Any solutions? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm not on fiber, so it's 150 not 150/150.11KViews0likes9CommentsSlow Speed Refund/Rebate
Since my internet speed is routinely now 20-25% of what I'm paying for, will Telus knock 75% off of the outrageous monthly rate it charges me for internet services? Unlikely, I know. It's curious to me how my internet speed takes a nosedive, and then I suddenly get bombarded with text messages from Telus asking me if my home internet is slow, and how I should sign up for their wi-fi boost program. Seems sketchy.2.7KViews1like1Comment
