I recently received a call from someone claiming to be a representative from Telus technical support, informing me that there was a supposed security issue linked to my account or device. The caller sounded convincing and insisted that immediate action was required to resolve the problem. They claimed that a $299 security service fee was necessary to protect my network and devices from potential threats. To complete the payment, they redirected me to a website — "https://www.support-wiz.com/Telus-Technical-Support.html" — which they claimed was an official Telus support portal for processing such payments.
However, upon closer inspection, it became clear that this was a scam. Telus does not operate through third-party websites for billing or technical support services. Official Telus payments and customer support interactions are conducted through their verified website (telus.com) and authorized phone numbers listed on their official platforms. Scams like this typically use urgent language, familiar brand names, and professional-looking materials to create a false sense of legitimacy. It’s a classic tactic designed to pressure people into handing over personal and financial details. Anyone who encounters a similar situation should avoid making any payments or sharing sensitive information and report the incident to both Telus and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre immediately.
