Frequent calling

I keep getting calls from (844) 962-1419 with TELUS as the caller ID, nearly everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. I've never picked up because I get these calls at the most inconvenience times. Today for example they've called at 1pm and 4pm and it's Friday. I am a telus customer so I'm not sure if this is real, or if it's a scam and I can just block the number.

It's quite likely a scammer pretending to be Telus. If you have Telus or Koodo for phone service, I'd suggest enabling Call Control. It'll block the automated spam/scam calls.

I have reason to suspect a call center contracted by Telus to try to generate more sales. Rogers does this so i figure Telus is at it too.

The phone number in question isn't a Telus toll free number or at not least one I've ever found to be associated with Telus. There are several reports that it's a scam call centre pretending to be Telus for months.

I received a call from this number tonight on my cell phone. It said Telus so I answered even though they NEVER call on my cell phone. They asked for my husband. I said why are you calling my cell asking for my husband. She said it was the only number she had. I thought that was odd but I gave my phone to my husband, She asked him if we had netflix and amazon and if we wanted to switch to optik. My husband said I'm not switching over to you. She said ok and hung up. I don't think we gave her any pertinent info. I'm just wondering if she could have gotten anything from recording our voices or something, and how can we make sure she doesn't do anything with that, on Telus' end? Like I don't want her to charge a bunch of calls to China on my cell or something.

I got the same call today exactly. Called asking for husband on my cell, wanted to initially give me a promo for another cell for another person in the household but said no one else needs a phone. Then the caller proceeded to give me a promo for streaming service for netflix and prime. I ageed to this deal and all seems legit because he knew our install date/time for internet and he knew my husband email. I shared with my husband as well that he said not to share this deal with my tech who is installing as well as not to order anything from amazon until my install date to get a $100 credit on our account…… The box was coming in the mail to set up these streaming apps. So I dont know if this was some kind of scam and if this box they are sending is the way to get info from us?

@kobymom38 - If the same number appeard on your call display, as mentioned before, it's not a known Telus toll free number. They were likely trying to get as much info from you as possible, especially payment details. Telus does not have a deal that bundles Netflix and Prime together, let alone one I've heard of with a $100 credit. Stream+, which is offered by Telus, bundles Netflix, Apple TV+ and discovery+. The only box Telus has currently that has the streaming apps is the new Optik/Telus TV+ Android box. If you didn't sign up for Optik TV, you wouldn't be getting that box. Any credits offered by Telus are typically bill credits for the Telus account, not for Amazon. The only $100 credits I see currently offered are for getting multiple services like internet and Optik TV, (and also land line) on a 2 year contract.

One big red flag (to me) from what you already posted is that the caller told you not to tell the Telus tech. If it was a legit deal, the install tech coming to your home wouldn't have cared if you mentioned it to him, especially if he was just installing internet only.

When you previously called Telus to set up the install date for your internet, did Telus send the install confirmation to your husband's email address? If yes, have him change his password immediately as a precaution and ensure two factor authentication is set up. There's a possiblity his email was compromised and that's how they knew the date. Any other places he used that same email address and password combo should also be changed. That also goes for Amazon. If your husband had an Amazon account connected to that email address, check your Amazon account right away for any recent purchases that you or your husband did not make. If there are, you need to get a hold of Amazon ASAP and let them know. If the scammers are sending you some random spyware riddled no-name Chinese branded Android TV boxes found on Amazon, or many other sites, do not connect it to your network if you get it.

What information did you give to the caller? Did you give them any payment information like a credit card? If yes, consider cancelling the card and getting it re-issued with a new number. Make sure the bank knows why so they don't allow any extra charges through. Check if any unauthorized purchases were already made on the card.
