Did you mean:

I don't have coverage even though I'm on the coverage map

I'm in the green shaded area on the TELUS covergae map however there is no signal within 10 minute drive.  I also want to purchase and air card but neighbours say that doesn't work either.

How soon could we expect the actual cell service to catch up to your coverage map.

Cellular coverage maps, as all radio coverage maps are modelled based on antenna position and height, and the terrain. There are many reasons for lack of coverage within a modelled area, including buildings, vegetation, and sometimes terrain not seen from he mapping. While it would be nice if the mapping was perfectly accurate, that's not always possible. In some places, climbing to the top of your RV gets signal! We have had a heck of a time getting the coverage we want for our Amateur Radio network because you can't always find the perfect location for antennae.

To clarify, where abouts are you located?  This is a big country.

There's a lot of factors like phone model and antenna size.  Also modern concrete apartment construction can mess up signals.

No, an air card might be pointless at this time.  Depending on your remoteness... an expensive satellite phone or landline might be your best option.
