Old phone works

Last year i was getting emails that my LG285 would not work after Jan 2017. In Dec 2016 I got an Alcatel One Touch. I recently found the old LG285 and turned it on. It worked. I phoned my home number and it rang. Haven't tried anything else but I was told it wouldn't work, but it does. Anybody else try this? I found the LG285 worked better.

If anything it may just mean the cell tower near you still has its CDMA hardware active. It won't be for long as Telus has retired CDMA and is supposed to be dismantling that network.
