It's complicated but the quick answer, for me, is no.

Do I need a VPN at home? | NortonLifeLock

You Probably Don't Need a VPN (vice.com)

Is a VPN really worth it? | Tom's Guide (tomsguide.com)

Not all VPN services are created equal and some will significantly slow your internet connection. The only time I've used VPN is when it's required to work remotely.

I find any VPN I use always restricts the speed of my connection. I'm on gigabit fibre and most VPN servers I've tried only offer a fraction of the speed. If I'm travelling and using hotel or public wifi, I'm definitely using a VPN then.

No need to use VPN for those. Your connection at home between your computer and Telus is secure.

At home or cellular I generally don't.

I use a VPN

  • when I'm on public wifi... unless it's super slow.
  • when I'm region switching to catch up on CW shows I forget to record.
