A-B If your field team reads this entire discussion thread, they'll be fully up to speed on the situation. But if they'd prefer the Coles notes version:
- HVAC equipment failed on the rooftop back in the spring of this year. It was fixed for about a month then failed again. Since then, around May, the main HVAC system has been shutdown and the backup system has been running full time, which has been producing a loud noise on the rooftop. I think the backup system is quite old and probably struggling to keep up with the load, hence running hard and loud.
- Eventually it was determined that the main HVAC chiller had failed and needed fixing. Parts were ordered in the summer, and we were told in July that the repair would be completed around September. Noise reduction panels were applied to the backup HVAC system to its reduce noise, which seems to have help somewhat but the noise is still quite noticeable, even with apartment windows closed.
- A couple weeks ago, HVAC folks started the job of repairing the chiller. They've been out on the rooftop pretty much every day since then. It looks like a big job. We're hoping they finish soon so that the main (quiet) HVAC system can be turned on and the noisy backup system turned off. As of this morning, I don't hear much noise from the rooftop, but it could just be that the backup HVAC system is temporarily switched off.
- If your field team could let us know when the main HVAC repair is complete, that would helpful.
