Hi all,
I'm moving into a basement suite in Surrey, BC that already has a TELUS PureFibre wall jack installed from a previous tenant.
If I sign up for a new TELUS PureFibre plan, does TELUS still require a technician visit, or can they simply ship the modem/router for a self-install?
If self-install is available, can I pick up the equipment locally from a TELUS store or depot to speed up the activation process, rather than waiting for it to be shipped?
Has anyone done this recently, and how long did activation take once the equipment arrived or was picked up?

As to if you need a tech visit, the short answer is likely not...but with a catch. Because the physical fibre line is already run into your suite, you're a prime candidate for a self-install kit. When you order your plan online or over the phone, our system would check the address and since it'd flag a pre-existing connection, it'd automatically default to a self-installation path. The one catch is if the previous tenant accidentally took the internal fibre modem (the Nokia or Network Access Hub plugged into the wall jack) OR if the light on the terminal is completely dead when our team tries to activate it from our backend, the system would then flag that a tech visit would be required. This would be just so that they could check levels and ensure that everything's on the up and up. If all the core gear is still on the wall though, you're good to go.
As for picking up the equipment at a local store, unfortunately that's not doable. Our retail stores don't typically stock the core PureFibre residential equipment for pickup. Anything sent to you in terms of a self-install kit would be shipped directly from our central warehouse, typically in 3-5 business days.
