Roku stick has killed Optik box HDMI

I wanted a way to appletv+ but didn't want to lose the Optik pvr box. Telus tech suggested adding a Roku, just installed & plugged Roku into HDMI splitter that connects my devices to TV. Now there is no output from HDMI of Optik, tried unplugging everything, changing cables, left Roku unplugged but Optik still not working. Just plugged in the secondary wireless Optik box & that works (not plugged Roku in in case this box dies too). Are the HDMI outputs incompatible somehow between older Optik & newer devices. Can't troubleshoot Optik box as I can't see it's output.

  • Does your TV have only one HDMI input?

I do not have a smart TV but have 3 HDMI inputs. I would put the ROKU in another port and use remote to change input as needed.

  • The TelusTV+21T tuner offers AppleTV app.

Does the older OPtik TV box not have this needing to add Roku?

    Trying to learn.

Correct, was disappointed to find after subscribing to Apple through Telus that I couldn't watch it other than on a phone or other device despite their being a channel in the guide. Don't have a smart tv either.

If you haven't already tried it you should plug the HDMI cable from Optik directly into you TV (no splitter) and ensure you have the correct HDMI port selected on the TV.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried & no different. The box must still be alive because the WiFi box can see the recordings etc. I'm assuming something with the newer Roku device screwed up the Optik box HDMI output via the splitter but I don't know how that's possible. Is the small round connection some kind of video output that might allow me to view on a small tv to troubleshoot?

I believe the round connector is for analog output. You would need a special cable to use that. Do you have another TV you could try connecting the box to?
