Poor picture quality
Compared to the Optik box, NHL picture quality on the replacement 24S box is very poor. Telus techs please explain why the 24S box is the worst looking source in my house? I have some very nice 4k tvs.

I'm a new customer since about a couple months ago, coming over from Shaw Direct satellite now that I have fibre. Picture quality is the biggest drawback for me so far. I find myself constantly playing with the settings of both the 24S and my TV to make the picture as bright/contrasty/etc as I now realize I was used to. It's especially bad when watching recordings, when the overall picture quality takes another step down...but the ads that come on while playing recordings look great🙃! Would be nice if the same quality was applied to the content we want to watch as is applied to the content we're forced to watch...

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We understand how important picture quality is, especially for sports like NHL games. The viewing experience on the 24S digital box can differ from the Optik set-top box because the devices use different hardware, processing capabilities, and streaming methods.

The difference is glaring. the 24S is a seriously bad piece of equipment. It is an equipment problem not anything else, it's a wired connection on Telus Fibre 250 mbps up and down. Been on hold with tech support for hours and it seems like it is unfixable.

Poor picture quality goes beyond the 24s. If you go to the Telus+ app on your tv the clarity does not improve. This really surprised me. What this tells me is that the compression algorithm they are using at the source is too aggressive, and then they feed that poor signal into an inferior processor. I will really miss time shifting my F1 and hockey (another issue is that recording times can't be adjusted) but I just can't deal with the horrible picture. Cancelled Optik and am putting that $1000 per year towards app subscriptions. I suspect Telus will lose tv subscribers.
