Monitor home devices usage of wifi without using the Telus Connect app?

Is it possible to monitor which devices are using my home Wifi without using the TELUS connect app?  I found the app does not provides comprehensive information about each device using our home wifi.  My concern is unauthorized usage of our home wifi since our Telus device is used by the former resident of our current home.  Thanks

  • Hi! Yes, absolutely! There are several effective ways to monitor devices on your home WiFi network without relying on the TELUS Connect app. Given your security concerns about the previous resident, here are your best options:

    1. Router Admin Interface (Most Comprehensive)

    Access your TELUS router directly:

    • Open a web browser and go to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 (common TELUS router addresses)
    • For some TELUS fiber setups, try 192.168.0.1
    • Login with the admin credentials (usually found on a sticker on your router)
    • Look for sections like "Connected Devices," "DHCP Client List," or "Device Manager"

    What you'll see:

    • All connected devices with MAC addresses
    • Device names and IP addresses
    • Connection times and data usage
    • Ability to block specific devices

    2. Third-Party Network Monitoring Apps

    Fing (Highly Recommended):

    • Free mobile app available for iOS/Android
    • Scans your network and identifies all connected devices
    • Shows device types, manufacturers, and IP addresses
    • Can detect intruders and send alerts
    • Works independently of your router brand

    Other options:

    • WiFi Analyzer apps
    • Network scanner tools
    • Advanced Router Scan (for PC)

Thank you so much for your prompt response and detailed information.  I have a lot to learn still, including how to find out exactly which device is which.  Based on the information, I have 10 devices connected to our home wifi and I need to figure out which is which, as some of the names do not sound familiar but I suspect our TV or printer, or even a booster downstairs, are all in the "devices" and I just need to figure out which is which.  Thank you again.
