Android OPTIK TV Review/Feedback Requested
A little over 2 years ago, I took an offer from Telus to switch from Shaw/Rogers. At that time, the new Optik TV had been out for only about 3-4 months and it was plagued with issues. Basic expected functions were missing and the Cloud PVR had issues including losing about 50 recordings all at once. While the Android had better app options compared to Shaw/Rogers, it was overall very frustrating and appeared that it was released to the public too soon. We cancelled at 90 days and we were still given a full refund of all cancellation fees. Wondering if longtime Telus customers are still having issues and whether the system is more stable? Much appreciated!Re: TELUS TV User Experience Research Group
Sorry to be blunt but this entire system is plagued with issues and missing the most basic of functions that should be expected - this system has regressed from what has been on the market for several years. EVERY customer on this system is a Beta Tester dealing with missing functions and issues and that have existed for months and have not been fixed. Online tech articles specific to this new system is completely missing which is inexcusable since the two versions are so different. As a new customer, I spent over an hour on the phone with tech support trying to figure out why I couldn't find Stingray music channels only to find out 2 days later from a second tech that it was App based only. Turns out the first tech was using troubleshooting steps for the previous Optik. Any customer on this system should be getting compensated until the issues are resolved or be given the option to step back to the original Optik (I was told this is not an option).16KViews1like1CommentRe: Optik TV Bulletin Board: Discover, Discuss, and Develop
I'm really curious as to when any of these issues are actually going to get addressed properly and not just work arounds? Are there any timeframes for things like fixing the surround sound issues and extending the storage time from 45 days etc? I also recognize that you are doing your job to the best of your ability based on the resources that you have and I appreciate that. Even as a new Telus customer, I see the frustration level building with little being resolved. Please pass along my comments. Thanks Kate!3.4KViews1like1CommentRe: Optik TV Bulletin Board: Discover, Discuss, and Develop
I'm a new Telus customer and I have been trying to set up recordings for series that we follow. We only want to record new episodes and not previous runs. On Shaw, it was very easy to set up recordings of series that were currently not running new episodes without having to record previously aired shows. To ensure that we don't miss upcoming new seasons, we have tried to schedule recordings in advance but can't. If you set a series to record as first run only but that series is only currently re-runs, the system gives an error that it can't be scheduled. The only alternative is to record all episodes but for some of the shows, they have been running for multiple seasons we are ended up with a long list of unwanted episodes. Being able to pre-set new series recordings in advance is also handy when an ad airs about a new series or a new season that is coming.17KViews1like0CommentsOptik Evolution Surround Sound Problem
After a couple of weeks with the new Telus Evolution, I noticed that I was getting little to no surround sound and even having to change my receiver to simulated surround mode just to get my sub amps to output. Using the Netflix app on the Telus box, I tested with a Dolby Atmos movie (war scene from All Quiet on the Western Front) and there is almost no sound out of the surround speakers - I can hear it a little if I put my ear to the speaker. If I resume the movie via Apple TV 4K through the same amp, which sends all signals to the TV via the same active 8K HDMI cable, I'm fully immersed in a war zone. I just ended a tech call to essentially be told that there is a known issue with the output of 5.1 and that there is no repair date noted yet. As I search online, I find complaints from 4 months ago for the same issue. They even advertise that the new Optik supports Dolby Atmos. How can Telus market this feature when they are well aware that it is not working? Totally deceptive. Every day that passes, I have come to realize that Telus is using us to beta test a system that is plagued with issues and a tech support team that appears to have little training on supporting the new gear. Come on Telus, get your act together. I didn't sign up to be a product tester.3.7KViews2likes2CommentsRe: Optik TV Bulletin Board: Discover, Discuss, and Develop
Perhaps. I just know it was standard with Shaw normal accounts and really handy. Also stops kids from deleting recordings from parents' accounts. Seems like a pretty simple addon based on the fact it is android based system.40KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Optik TV Bulletin Board: Discover, Discuss, and Develop
An additional note that I forgot to mention is it would be extremely helpful if Optik profiles could be PIN protected like Netflix. We have an AirBnB and we were very surprised that there is no method of keeping people from logging into any profile. We will also miss the ability to limit some TV boxes from accessing our PVR recordings which was a great feature we had with Shaw. Now guests can watch and delete our recordings which is not ideal.40KViews2likes2Comments
