The moment we've all waited for - the moment you hear the knock on your door and the delivery person hands you your brand new phone. You rip open the box in earnest, power on the device, admire its awesomeness and then you’re left wondering how you're ever going to transfer all the important content from your old device to your new.

We’ve compiled a list of resources from manufacturers to help you get started:

Apple

iPhone to iPhone

Simply plug your old iPhone to your computer, launch iTunes and back-up your device (for iCloud instructions, click here). Once your backup completes, "eject" your iPhone then plug in your new phone and "Restore" your backed up information.

Alternatively, if you've enabled backup via iCloud, you can simply “restore from iCloud” on the initial setup screen once you power on your new phone.

For your reference, here is a handy Apple how-to: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT203977

Switching over from Android to iOS

Apple makes it very easy for you to switch over from your Android device. Make sure both devices are charging and connected to the same WiFi network then download the Move to iOS app available on Google Play to your Android device and you're almost there.

Check out this link for all the steps: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201196

Blackberry

Switching between Blackberry 10 devices

Upgrading your Blackberry 10 device to another? Download Device Switch from the BlackBerry World storefront to both old and new device then follow the steps here:

Switching from Android or iOS to Blackberry 10

It is as easy to switch from Android or iOS to Blackberry 10 as it is to switch from another Blackberry device. Download Device Switch from Blackberry World, Google Play or the App Store to both devices and follow these steps here:

HTC

Transfer contacts from “other” devices

Five quick steps to transfer devices from your old phone to your new HTC:

  • On your new phone, go to settings.
  • Tap Get content from another phone.
  • Tap All other phones.
  • On your old phone, turn on Bluetooth and pair it with the number shown on your new phone.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

LG

Switching between LG devices

Nexus devices

Switching from iOS and/or “other” devices

Transferring content to your new Nexus device depends largely on the content itself. Google has put together a step by step guide on how to import your photos, music, contacts, email/messages:

Nice sharing. To transfer content between old phone and new phone, the easies way is using Coolmuster mobile transfer. After connecting both of them to computer via usb cable, it helps us directly transfer data, including contacts, sms, photos, music, videos, etc between them.

Thanks for sharing this. I learn a lot about how to transfer data from old phone to new phone in this article. And I know that it may be a little bit difficult and inconvenient to transfer from iPhone to Samsung or switch data between iPhone and Blackberry. I have taken your advice to migrate my iPhone photos to Samsung successfully. Thanks again.
