High Ping on CS2 West Coast Servers

Hello,

I'm experiencing high ping on Counter-Strike 2 West Coast servers since January 30th, 2024. I'm located in Alberta and my ping to Seattle servers was usually 30-40ms and California was 40-45ms but lately it has been 60-80ms for those servers, while getting 40-50ms ping to East Coast servers such as Chicago and New York.

I had commented in the "Valorant High Ping West Servers" thread as I also play Valorant but that issue has been resolved but the issue seems to persist on Counter-Strike 2 and other games on Steam. Has anyone else been experiencing this?

@Nighthawk have you done much gaming lately? Is this something you're seeing also?

Unfortunately CS2 and Valorant aren't games I currently play. Of the other ones that I do, I haven't noticed any latency changes lately.

I can confirm this. On CS 2 I'm getting 61 ms ping to Seattle servers when previously it used to be around 20. Distances physically further than Seattle have lower ping now (ex: Chicago at 30 ms, New York at 47 ms).

Telus has a direct line to Chicago. I get low latency to game servers there.

Makes sense. What is odd however is that I used to get around 15-20 ms ping at most to the Seattle servers, but like OP it has increased significantly to 60-80 ms since Jan 30.

West coast servers have always been hit or miss for me, likely since I'm in Alberta. California based servers have always been a lot higher for me also, regardless of the game I play.
