The saga continues.
I had packed up the unit to return it, and called to get a return procedure. I was connected to a loyalty agent who said that it could be made to work. He seemed quite positive and said he'd talk to technical support. I got an email with some instructions to set a different APN and enable UPnP. So I unpacked the unit and set it up again. Under the APN settings there was a choice for PDP of IPv4v6 (or IPv4 or IPv6). None gave an IPv6 connection; "IPv6" blocked the IPv4 connection.
I could find no documentation for the MC7530CA, such as relating to setting up APN. I wrote to ZTE in China but got only information on size and weight.
I have now returned the unit via Canada Post. That went smoothly, using the return number I was emailed.
