Most providers offer gifts as an incentive to sign up. For long term customers Telus has their Rewards program:
Earn & Redeem Points on Great Rewards | TELUS Rewards
It's often possible to get the new package prices by talking to the Loyalty department when you existing plan is about to expire.
I'm fairly sure this is typical for all the major providers.
