24 TopicsUnscrupulous Security Tech Charges
I did not want to renew my Home Security account as I had not used it in sometime. The sensors were also broken. TELUS sent over a repair person to exchange the sensors. He arrived and replaced all the broken ones. He said that there will be a charge but to call into customer service and they will reverse it. Today I received a charge of $400. No one is reversing it and saying I approved it. This tech was named LUCKY and left his TELUS card and phone number. I need this reversed or will have to cancel all my TELUS services as it has not been 30 days since the new contract.140Views0likes1CommentVivint Security system upgrade costs and cancellation fees post-migration
So i have Vivint Security.. and while it was operated by vivint it worked amazing... in 2022 i got the entire system upgraded by vivint just as telus was taking over... Since then.. the door bell stopped work.. the door bell camera stopped working.. all my sensors co2, glass break, ect.. also stopped working... then the vivint app stopped working.... i contant vivint, they tell me to contact telus.. so i try and contact telus.. after two days i got a call from telus saying they need to upgrade my system to the new standard - and am quoted a bill of $3300 for the upgrade to a system that isnt even 5 years old yet. So i say i cant afford that and ask them to to cancel the account and come disconnect the system, as if i am paying that much i might as well get a reliable system that will last 5 years.... He then informs me that it is my responsibility to disconnect the system (even though i have no security or electrical skill sets what so ever).. if telus sends a technician they will charge me $1700 to disconnect the system.... if i dont do either.. they will charge me $2300 for the equipment (even though to my knowledge i already paid vivint the entire system cost when i had it installed.. so why would i be charged for it again?)... so he tells me i might as well pay the $3300.. (oh and the monthly fee was going up by another $20 a month too) and a new contract. So in short - Telus disables all my sensors, refuses tech support without an extremely pricey upgrade that telus forced and sign a new contract for a higher service fee....or threaten to charge me me between $1700 and $2300 to cancel the service Way to make me want to stay a Telus Customer... Anyone else getting scammed like this? Looking to raise the $1700 so i can cancel all my telus services..125Views1like1CommentFree Telus Camera
Two weeks ago I called Telus to move my account to a new address and arrange a tech install. The Telus representative on the phone said they were going to send me a "free camera", they never mentioned a cost or it being for a security system. I straight up told him that I have my on security system and they said no problem, it's free anyway. I've had issues with my Telus internet and current value of my plan, so I called back today. I was just told that I am paying $18/month for a home security plan for a camera that I have no intentions in ever using. Spoke to their Loyalty team and they said they would reduce my bill, but it sounds like they are keeping a reduced payment for the security camera, but overall i get a better deal then if I remove it. Something still feels wrong. I don't want to be charged for a piece of hardware I will never use and I don't want to have Telus home security on my plan. Is Telus taking a look into their own practices here? This seems highly unethical. I've had to spend 3hrs on the phone and I may need to drive to a Telus center to drop off hardware. How come a Telus rep can easily send you a "Free Camera" and sign you up with a service but it's extremely difficult to remove that service? This treatment is enough for me to remove fiber and move to another provider all together.167Views0likes1CommentTELUS inherited my Vivint equipment — now wants me to pay to replace it
TELUS inherited my Vivint equipment — now wants me to pay to replace it Bought out my Vivint equipment in full in 2021. Own it outright. 37 sensors, doorbell camera, smart lock — the works. Month-to-month monitoring at $33.04/month ever since. TELUS's "sunset" offer: $1,000 credit toward a ~$2,000 replacement system, plus my monthly fee jumps to ~$50. So I eat $1,000 in hardware costs and a 51% rate increase — for a platform decision that's entirely TELUS's. I don't need anything new and my system works just fine. My ask is simple: if Telus wants to replace the equipment, they can do so - at their own cost. They are obligated to maintain the agreement they acquired when they took over Vivint. Anyone else dealing with this? CCTS and Alberta Consumer complaints are drafted and ready to go — hoping to resolve it here first.612Views0likes4CommentsTelus Security Contractor Phoned to Upgrade System
A week or so ago a Telus contractor contacted me by phone to set up an appointment to upgrade our security system hardware. He asked if we had received a letter from Telus informing of the need to upgrade our system - we had not. The representative then went on to describe the system & hardware we had so he clearly had access to our account. I told him that we don't do business from unsolicited phone calls and he said that he/Telus would send us an email outlining the upgrades and how to set up an appointment. No email or letter was ever received. I believe this was some service 'trolling' being done by a Telus Security contractor and that the 'upgrade' really wasn't required by Telus. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Telus - please reassure us that your contractor policies do not allow such behaviour.908Views0likes6CommentsHome Security Scam
Recently my girlfriend’s mom had a Telus representative sell them a Doorbell home security system. The representative stated the price for the system was $90 but later was charged $200. Talked to multiple different people and nobody has resolved this representative scam.229Views0likes1CommentSmart Home Security Issues
First off, I don't need to post much as my home services and mobility have not cost me much grief. Now Home Security is another matter. I was an ADT customer and as we all know, Telus bought ADT and many other home security companies. This all started when I was told that I would have to have my old Honeywell system and 3 panels removed and integrated into a new Telus Home Security. I should have known better but went with the plan. A "contract" tech came and ripped out the old Honeywell 128 contact panel and installed an integrator since all of my sensors were wired direct to the main box in the basement. I told Telus that since I had 3 keypad panels, I wanted the same with the new system. They installed the LCD touch screen panels in the same place as our original keypad panels. The first major problem was these panel would fail on a regular basis and that due to the "contractor running the plug in power supply in our basement and running the power over telephone wire with very poor crimps. This was an ongoing problem with rebooting panels and panels shutting down. At some point a different contractor came out and said that some of the wire runs for power were too long and punched a small hole in the bedroom wall to run the power cable in the wall to an adjacent plug. No cutting or splicing required. My existing panels other than the bedroom have been flakey but I have just rebooted the device and it comes back to life. Please see my 2nd post for the rest of this issue. Thank you for reading so far.343Views0likes2CommentsCan my calls since April 2025 be reviewed ????
I have already spoke to loyalty department with no result and they said there is no where for me to elevate my concern. Moved in May 2025, was told to leave all My equipment at the old house the same as my house before….Called for the new installation for September 30th. Was going to let my contract just run out expiring in May 2026. Upon installation, was charged again for all equipment I had owned previously to the new location and was also renewed into a 3 year contract without my knowledge. Called but they said that I was advised of all this. My calls should be recorded. Why would I renew my contract another 3 years? I think maybe the call agents have sales targets. My last call with Elvis Calanche on Dec9th reassured me I could cancel on May 2026. Then this week my bill went up another $11.00 and apparently I was signed up by Elvis for Telus online security add on so I called in today and Christine cancelled this but then also advised me I’m in contract till September 2028 also asked her if my bill would go down by returning uninstalled equipment the tech left behind and she said because I have an unauthorized discount that she said my bill might go up. She also said. I’m lucky that my bill is low! Feeling very lost and confused with Telus. I only wanted to move my existing contract to another property and the representative signed me up on a new contract???? Why??Now I am stuck.172Views0likes1Comment
