Re: Cost of rewiring entire house with fibre wires and no wi-fi
Rewiring with fibre would be pointless because the max LAN speed you could get from an ethernet switch is Gig speed and that's well within the capability of CAT6 copper twisted pair cable. In addition at some point the fibre would have to be converted to copper as any devices you want to connect cannot accept a direct fibre connection. The reason for using fibre over copper is distance. Copper CAT 5, 5e, 6 or 6a tops out at a length of 300m or 1000ft whereas fibre far surpasses that. Also, in your scenario you would need a fibre switch which is not realistic.2.9KViews2likes0CommentsCannot View Recorded Shows On My PVR Without Optik/Internet Service
Earlier this week some idiots cut a major fibre optik link in St. Albert for the purpose of stealing some of it. We had no phone, internet, or Optik TV for about 24 hours. I was surprised and disappointed that I couldn't watch shows that I had previously recorded on my PVR without Optik/Internet service. The shows are recorded locally on the PVR's hard drive so I don't understand why Optik/Internet access is required to view them.Solved4.2KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Ethernet wall ports not working
You said "new apartment". Is it new as in no one has ever lived in it? If so the ethernet wiring was probably installed and terminated by the electricians and not a data cabling specialist. Electricians think they know everything about wiring, but in actual fact they don't. You'll have to get someone in with a data tester to test and fix the obviously mis-wired jacks.3KViews0likes0CommentsArcadyan not as good as T3200M
I just signed up for 2 more years of Loyalty discounts and the Telus rep said she was sending me a new WiFi 6 modem and new PVR for my family room and secondary box for my bedroom. What I received is the Arcadyan modem, which after much trial and error, I found out is NOT a WiFi 6 modem and is in fact the same WiFi 5 802.11ac as the T3200. After installing the Arcadyan (before I found out it is not WiFi 6) the internet dropped twice in one day and required power cycles both times. My wife is a software engineer who works from home and she was not impressed. The next day there were some devices that had no problems with wireless internet access, but others who were connected but had no internet access. I also noticed that my PVR was acting sluggish and some channels were not available. I never had a single problem with the T3200 in the 3.5 years since my fibre was hooked up. I reinstalled the T3200 and everything is stable as it always has been. The Arcadyan also has one less ethernet port than the T3200 forcing me to get a small switch so that I could connect all of my wired devices. I'm disappointed I didn't get a WiFi 6 modem as promised, but I've read posts on this forum that it's not reliable either, and it only has 2 ethernet ports. Does anyone know if one of those two ports can bridged? The PVR and secondary box I received are the exact same models I already have so I guess I now have a spare of each.Solved6.2KViews0likes2Comments
